How To Install Bamboo Flooring

Follow these steps to install your beautiful new bamboo flooring.

Bamboo flooring can definitely add real elegance to the rooms in your house. Though still rather new in its development, it has come a long way already, and is now a definite competitor of the wood floor world. After you choose the style and color that you want, and bring it home, the process soon comes of putting it down. Before you do anything, let the flooring stand for about a week to adjust to the conditions of the house. Here are some of the steps involved.

Provide a Clean Surface

After you have determined that the floor is clean, smooth and ready, then it comes time to get ready to put it down. If there is moisture in the floor, then you will want to wait until it is dry. It would also be a good idea to use a glue that also serves as a vapor barrier - urethane based.

Put Down The Adhesive

Bamboo flooring can be put down with either glue or a nail gun (into sub floor, not concrete). If nails are used, they should be driven into the tongue at a 45-degree angle. Where adhesive is used, you may either apply it in sections that extend just a little beyond where the new board will be placed, or you may put it on the back of each board itself.

Lay Down The Start Board

Start by putting one board next to the wall and then bring it out from the wall either 1/4" or 3/8". It is important that the first board is straight, because all other boards will be lined up with it. The boards may need to be cut with a fine-toothed trim saw blade in order to keep the edges looking neat and straight. The ends of the boards need to be staggered so as not to form a straight line of ends.

Tap Each New Board In Place

After you lay down the next board, take a piece board, place it next to the new board, and with a hammer hit the board so as to tap the new board into place. This ensures a tight fit. When the other side of the room is reached, again you will want to be sure to leave at least a 1/4" to 3/8" gap between the board and the wall.

Finishing the floor will add such beauty to your rooms. Bamboo flooring is also greatly durable, and elegant, and you will be glad when it is on your floors.
